Mukima House is located in a private ranch, 15 minutes drive from Nanyuki town with a clear view of second largest mountain Mt Kenya.
The luxury country house was built in 1940’s and has been recently rescued, rebuilt and refurbished with hand cedar floors, cedar windows and some immense cedar beams making the house one of Kenya’s most exceptional surviving example of the past era.
The House has a Dam in front of it, fed by ground water from Mount Kenya, provides safe haven to many bird species, including egrets, ibis, storks, pelicans, various ducks and two breeding pairs of crested crane. A small herd of impala and bush buck are breeding on the farm, while tree hyrax provide the appropriate night noises and the guinea fowl are becoming tamer.
Mukima House has seven en suite bedrooms accommodating up fourteen people. The house has swimming pool and a massage room to make you feel relaxed in after a long day.
There is a first floor open terrace, perfect for sundowners while watching the white egrets fly home to roost on the dam against the backdrop of the mountain and the African dusk.
Just as stunning on the clear mornings is the sunrise, which silhouettes the mountain on soft pink and blue. The front of the house has a large, wrap-around veranda, used for daytime dining.
The rooms are comfortably furnished with local, Lamu and imported Indonesian pieces, which all combine well and compliment the formal aspect of the house.
